Today the Tech Committee at Pinecrest Elementary will be hosting two separate breakout sessions at their staff meeting today. One session will be SmartNotebook 14 training with Melissa Black. The other session will be about HastingsApps/Google Drive with Angie Jorgenson. These two trainings opportunities were the brainchild of the Pinecrest Elementary Tech Committee (PELTC).
Several weeks back, the staff at Pinecrest was sent a brief Google Form to gauge interest in various tech trainings. After viewing and discussing the results, these two sessions were deemed most important for this moment in time. Per principal Bakker's request, members of grade level teams will divide and conquer by sending folks to each session. They can then report back to the group and serve as peer assistants. It is my hope that this trial-run using Google Hangouts On Air will lead to more live-streamed trainings for our ISD200 staff and beyond. Update: District filters which prevented the broadcast of this event has since been adjusted so that staff can have access.

PD, in the traditional sense, will be offered in the coming weeks on LearnPad. It pleases me to be providing grade levels with a larger chunk of time devoted entirely to LearnPad, Class Connect Portal, and creating meaningful content for your students. This time will afford us the opportunity to dig deeper into the LearnPad solution, share recommended resources, and plan ahead using Power Standards as our road map.
The LearnPad solution was selected by Hastings Public Schools because it is a student-centered learning device. As the teacher, we control every aspect of the content contained on the device. This leads to a more focused, purposeful, and educationally sound tech experience. It is in this way that LearnPads offer greater differentiation for our students in a safer learning environment. iPads are still a valuable teaching tool. One is being provide to each classroom as a teacher tech tool. A resource that, when used correctly, can free you from your desk and allow access to the largest collections of apps on the planet |
