HastingsApps Basics
|
Imagine having a USB memory stick where you could create files, organize them, save them safely, take them with you, and access them on any device. Now, imagine the same thing without having a USB memory stick to remember. That is HastingsApps and Drive in a nutshell.
HastingsApps and Google Drive are effectively the same cloud-based storage and file creation platform. As a district, we have bought into the Google way with HastingsApps, a more controllable way for our students, teachers, and staff to communicate, create, and collaborate. HastingsApps looks and operates just like Google Drive and Gmail.
What do you get with HastingsApps or Google Drive?
You get access to your files from anywhere at anytime through your internet browser. Start a document on the desktop at school, work on it at Caribou on your iPad, finish it at home on your laptop. Then share it with students and families on their devices (any of them) from anywhere at any time. You can even work together, in real time, on the same projects!
How do I get started?
Start by checking out some intro tutorials online (Atomic Learning - YouTube).
Then, sign in to your account.
Username: (first-initial)(last-name)@hastingsapps.org
Password: (that's your secure information ;-)
If you do not know your password, and you've tried the usual suspects, please email me and I will reset and resend it to you. This will also be an chance to ask your HastingsApps questions.
What can I do in HastingsApps?
HastingsApps and Google Drive house all of the following and more in one place.
Will we receive training on HastingsApps and Google Drive?
Yes. You can request a one-on-one session with me at any time. On top of that, I will posting and sharing a variety of video tutorials so that you can learn at your own pace. Occasionally, we will work on aspects of HastingsApps and Google Drive as a group, but arranging an individual session is best.
Can students access HastingsApps on their device?
Yes. Whether that device is provided by ISD200, or it is from home as a part of our BYOD initiative, HastingsApps and Google Drive are available on any device with a web browser. In many cases there are even apps for that.
Can I store my current files in HastingsApps and Google Drive?
Yes. If you would like to use your HastingsApp account as free-to-you cloud storage for your current files (of any type), you may upload them and have piece of mind knowing that they are safely stored and available to you or anyone you give permission to access.
